On February 26, Dr. Hanif DP Hj Mahadi, Assistant Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), visited Zhejiang University. He was warmly welcomed by WANG Jingdai, Vice President of Zhejiang University; REN Qilong, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; and SHEN Youqing, Dean of the College of Chemical and Biological Engineering.

During the visit, Dr. Mahadi toured the state-of-the-art laboratories at the College of Chemical and Biological Engineering and attended presentations on cutting-edge research achievements. He gained firsthand insight into the college’s remarkable progress in scientific innovation, pedagogical reforms, and international collaboration.

Dr. Mahadi and Vice President Wang joined a classroom session with Bruneian students. During the session, Associate Professor SUN Jingyuan delivered a clear and engaging lecture, while students actively exchanged ideas in vibrant discussions, highlighting the college’s dynamic teaching environment. Dr. Mahadi commended the college’s emphasis on interactive and student-centered pedagogy, which fosters innovation and practical skills—a philosophy closely aligned with global educational best practices. “Through this immersive classroom experience, I have witnessed the outstanding achievements of the College of Chemical and Biological Engineering, Zhejiang University in education and teaching. These practices offer valuable insights for the development of related disciplines at Universiti Brunei Darussalam,” he remarked.

The College of Chemical and Biological Engineering has proactively responded to national initiatives by expanding its global outreach. In April 2013, supported by the Hengyi Group, the college launched a collaborative “university-enterprise-university” program with Universiti Brunei Darussalam to jointly cultivate petrochemical professionals for Brunei. This initiative bridges Brunei’s aspiration to establish a robust chemical engineering talent development system and Chinese enterprises’ demand for localized expertise. To date, the program has successfully trained over 200 professionals across more than a dozen cohorts for Brunei.

This collaboration underscores Zhejiang University’s commitment to fostering international partnerships and advancing global education excellence.
