Prof. ZHAO Junjie, ZJU-100 Researcher in College of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Zhejiang University, was honored with the American Vacuum Society (AVS) Thin Film Division Paul H. Holloway Young Investigator Award at the AVS 69th International Symposium & Exhibition held in Portland, USA from November 5th to 10th.
Expressing his gratitude, Prof. Zhao remarked, “I am humbled and grateful to receive the Paul H. Holloway Young Investigator Award, with deep respect to remember Prof. Holloway who inspired so much of our work in the thin film community.”
Named after the late scientist and former president of the American Vacuum Society, Prof. Paul H. Holloway, this prestigious award annually recognizes one young scientist globally for their outstanding achievements in theoretical and experimental research in the field of thin films. Prof. Zhao's work on the multiscale structural tuning and area-selective deposition of thin film materials has earned international recognition. Notably, Prof. Zhao is the first recipient from an Asian university since the award's inception in 2009, marking a significant milestone.
Elaborating on his work, Prof. Zhao shared, “My research group focuses on the development of approaches to control the multiscale structures and nanoscale placement of thin film materials. We are motivated to grow thin films into desired structures and on to targeted surfaces. This is important as we can provide an expanded tool kit with new materials and fabrication strategies for many applications to solve the critical issues that our world is facing.”
“Our work could potentially reduce the number steps in nano-manufacturing and contribute to a greener world by bringing down the energy consumption and CO2 emission in semiconductor industry. That’s why my students and I are fascinated,” he further added.
