In an effort to expand global perspectives and enhance practical skills among students, the College of Chemical and Biological Engineering(CBE) and Qiushi Academy at Zhejiang University have organized a five-day study visit to the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) from July 31 to August 4, 2024. The visit aimed to explore the latest research in chemical and biological engineering and to foster academic exchange. The delegation of 28 undergraduate students was led by Professor Pengju Pan, Vice Dean; Teacher Ma Jie, Director of Student Affairs; and Teacher Lou Chaoteng, Deputy Director of Student Affairs at Yunfeng Academy.

Academic Exchange and Laboratory Visits

The study visit commenced at NUS with an academic exchange and tour of the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. Professors Zhang Yimin, Zhao Dan, Wang Lei, and Mao Xiwen, along with Professor LIM Wee Chuan Eldin, shared their academic journeys, research updates, and detailed information about graduate programs. They highlighted cutting-edge research areas, such as biodegradable pacemakers, advanced materials, and carbon dioxide conversion, emphasizing the potential applications and future prospects.

Cultural Immersion and Campus Tour

The second destination was NTU, where the delegation attended the School of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering's undergraduate exhibition. They engaged with current students and toured the campus, followed by an academic exchange session. Deans CHIBA Shunsuke and ZHAO Yanli, along with Professor SOO Han Sen, presented the school's development and future plans, addressing queries about graduate program applications and encouraging Zhejiang University students to apply.

Social Research and Cultural Exploration

Beyond academic interactions, students conducted social research on cultural differences and sustainable urban development in Singapore, gaining insights into the local culture and expanding their international perspective. This experience not only enriched their understanding of Singapore's multiculturalism but also reinforced their cultural identity and confidence.

The study visit combined academic discussions, laboratory tours, and field research, deepening the students' knowledge and appreciation of their academic fields. It is anticipated that these experiences will inspire the students to further their professional studies, engage in pioneering research, and contribute meaningfully to their disciplines and society at large. CBE and Qiushi Academy are committed to strengthening their collaboration with international institutions to cultivate innovative talents with a global vision and a sense of national responsibility.
