From April 12-14, 2025, Hangzhou, played host to the inaugural Chem & Bio Engineering Forum and the Journal Editorial Board Meeting of Chem & Bio Engineering. This significant event was organized by the College of Chemical and Biological Engineering, Zhejiang University. The conference attracted leading experts and scholars from around the globe, focusing on pivotal themes such as "Advanced Materials and Chemical Engineering", "Reaction and Separation Intensification", "Biochemical and Pharmaceutical Engineering" and "Green Energy and Catalysis".
Qilong Ren, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, who serves as the editor-in-chief of the Chem & Bio Engineering journal, chaired the conference. Among the notable attendees were academicians Guanghui Ma, Licheng Sun, and Chunying Chen from the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Shiping Zhu, an academician of both the Canadian Academy of Engineering and Royal Society of Canada; Peter Englezos from the Canadian Academy of Engineering; Frank Caruso from the Australian Academy of Science and Academy of Engineering; Jingguang Chen from the US National Academy of Engineering; Tae-Woo Lee from the Korea Academy of Science and Technology; along with other eminent scholars including Rongjun Chen from Imperial College London, Marc-Olivier Coppens from University College London, Damien Debecker from KU Leuven, and Chunxia Zhao from the University of Adelaide.
Jingdai Wang, Vice President of Zhejiang University, alongside Qilong Ren and Qianjun Tang, Director of Strategic Partnerships at ACS Publications, made the opening remarks. The opening ceremony was led by Youqing Shen, Dean of the College of Chemical and Biological Engineering and executive editor-in-chief of the Chem & Bio Engineering journal.
The forum featured an impressive lineup of presentations: 8 plenary lectures, 41 keynote speeches, 24 invited talks, 54 oral presentations, and 30 poster sessions, offering comprehensive insights into the latest research findings and technological advancements within chemical engineering. To encourage high-quality contributions, the Chem & Bio Engineering journal introduced the annual Most Influential Paper Award. The 2024 recipients included Professor Chunxia Zhao of the University of Adelaide, Professor Xiang Ma of East China University of Science and Technology, Professor Dong Chen of Zhejiang University, and Professor David Weitz of Harvard University. Additionally, awards for outstanding oral and poster presentations were presented to students.
This conference aimed to foster international academic exchanges and cooperation in chemical engineering, stimulate interdisciplinary innovation, and enhance the global influence of Chinese researchers. It served as a bridge connecting minds worldwide to address critical challenges facing humanity.
Chem & Bio Engineering Introduction
Chem & Bio Engineering, co-published by Zhejiang University and the American Chemical Society under the editorship of Academician Qilong Ren, focuses on publishing groundbreaking research in chemical and biological engineering. The journal covers areas like industrial catalysis, separation engineering, intelligent synthesis optimization, biomedical materials, synthetic biology, energy storage materials, and sustainable engineering.
